I am a Broadway Fanatic. More specifically, a Broadway Musical Fanatic. I’ve have seen tons of them, you name it, Rent, Hairspray, Wicked, Legally Blond, In The Heights, Next To Normal, Les Mis, Avenue Q, Book of Mormon, Spring Awakening, Priscilla Queen of the Dessert, Billy Elliot, oh and the list goes on. I love them. Sitting in the old theater, being entertained by the best of the best, is an experience unlike any others. And it is even more special when you see one that is truly spectacular. One that makes you tap your feet and sing along during the performance. One that keeps you singing and smiling from the second the curtain drops and you walk back out in the mayhem that is Times Square at 11:00 pm. And one that keeps you on high for days after you see it. I had one of those experiences this past weekend, when I saw Pippin, The Musical.

The show is a remake from over 40 years ago. It is a story of a young boy(prince) looking to find meaning in his life. On this path to becoming extraordinary, he learns that there is more to life than just the extraordinary, and that the simple life can be just as fulfilling. It is an interesting and somewhat cliche story, but it was none the less inspiring.

It had everything you hope to see in a broadway show, including incredible voices, outrageous dancing, brilliant costumes, acrobats, fire pits, love, lust, a joke about gays, and even a PUPPY! I would gladly see this show again, and again, and even again!

His worth and notoriety, of course, exponentially increase when one considers that he is married to one of the only working music stars who is more famous than he: Beyoncé. Together, they are unfairly beautiful, unfairly rich, and unfairly famous, but so goshdarned flawless that most people only harbor faint pangs of jealousy.

In January, the couple welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy. Mass hysteria ensued. It was as if the messiah had returned; in fact, multiple news outlets referred to the child as the messiah, and, really, only half-jokingly. A Twitter record (please, you must have heard about the Twitter by now) for most tweets-per-second was set when the birth was announced, breaking the previous record set when the pregnancy was announced. This baby was a Big Deal. The frenzy surrounding the royal pregnancy is pathetic by comparison. Blue Ivy is our princess. Your princess.

Also, Beyoncé and Jay are BFFs—that stands for Best Friends Forever—with the Obamas. When the couple was expecting Blue Ivy, the president gave him advice on how to be a good dad. The internet went wild when that happened. It was everywhere. Obama even cracked once that he was just like Jay-Z: “We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are.” Shortcut guide to Jay-Z: he and Barack Obama are the same.

Oh yeah, he makes music, too. A lot of music. Sure, it’s the kind of music a lot of you call “noise” and “trash” and think is reserved for “whippersnappers” and “hooligans,” but using that as an excuse not to recognize one of the century’s most influential artists—yep, I said it!—is kind of as tragic as a teen these days not recognizing a photo of Elvis Presley, or knowing who Mozart is. Since recording his first record in 1995, the Brooklyn native has released 16 albums, sold 50 million copies, and won 14 Grammy awards. He’s kind of a big deal.

Once, around six years ago, Karp’s mentor, Fred Seibert, gave him some tough love. Karp had begun working for the television and film producer after dropping out of New York’s prestigious Bronx High School of Science at the age of 15. He had taught himself how to code, and his parents homeschooled him while he worked for Seibert and built Davidville, which he called “an invention company.” Seibert helped him get his next job, as the chief technology officer of UrbanBaby. After Karp cashed out, in his late teens, Seibert offered some unsolicited advice. “He thought I looked like a chump because I was wearing a tie too often,” Karp says. Doogie Howser, M.D., wore a tie every day; a tech boy-wonder also had to dress the part. (Karp now sticks to hooded sweatshirts and jeans.)

It was 2007 when Karp, then 19, turned his interest to blogs. Blogging was already widespread, but existing services, like WordPress, presumed a familiarity with things like HTML that many would-be bloggers didn’t have. Karp wondered why no one had invented something simpler, so he did it himself. Bloggers flocked to the site, which he called Tumblr.

The company has come a long way from two employees in a tiny Manhattan office. It now occupies two floors in a loft building in Manhattan’s tony Gramercy neighborhood. There is beer in the kitchen and a Ping-Pong table on the sixth floor, but compared with the Chuck E. Cheese office environment of other Internet startups, the atmosphere is relatively sedate. “These are nerds,” says Tumblr VP Andrew McLaughlin, the former deputy technology chief for the Obama White House. “People like to make goofy sci-fi GIFs, not so much tank beers through a funnel.”

Not that there’s anything wrong with tanking beers through a funnel, right?
